PROBLEM
For many young adults first living on their own, there comes the challenge of learning to take care of themselves for the first time. Students in particular, are subject to falling into unhealthy habits, especially when it comes to food. Without the assistance of a guardian-figure or mentor matched with a plethora of unhealthy “ready-made” options provided by dining halls, healthy eating is almost impossible.
SOLUTION
A convenient, flexible course that introduces kitchen skills to students, incorporating recipes curated with food in the fridge or in a university dining hall. Partnering with schools, university dining hall ingredients are updated and shared with students. With the help of AI, grocery and recipe lists are planned for the week customized with dietary restrictions and favored cuisines.

RESEARCH + IDEATION
Since I worked on this project during university, I had the opportunity to to talk to real students both who live in dorms and commute to school. From my conversations, here are the main pain points I gathered when it came to cooking during the school-year :
on-campus resident
- Minimal food storage (mini-fridge and lack of cabinets)
- Limited ingredients from the dining hall
- Not wanting to take up the kitchen for a long period of time (living with roommates)
off-campus resident
- Parent/guardian cooks for resident
- Often missing an ingredient for something they want to make
With these pain points in mind, I designed features to ensure a better learning experience for cooking such as a substitution feature within recipes and AI-assisted recipe lists to take into account how much time each recipe would take.
